ATHOLTON HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETIC HALL OF FAME

NOMINATION CRITERIA AND INDUCTION PROCEDURES

 

The Atholton High School Boosters Athletic Hall of Fame (Hall of Fame) has been organized
and established to meet the following purposes:


1. To honor Atholton High School graduates and/or those associated with AHS Athletics who
has excelled in athletics or who have had a significant role in the success of Atholton Athletes.


2. To publicly recognize the selected individuals by permanently placing a plaque in the
Atholton Hall of Fame. In addition, other activities as determined by the Committee will
include the Hall of Fame members.


3. To enhance the traditions of athletic excellence at Atholton High School.


4. To provide role models for current student athletes.

 

Induction Procedures:
The Hall of Fame Committee (Committee) will be made up of 7 members consisting of a
member of the Administration, an officer from the AHS Boosters, the Athletic and Activities
Manager, and 4 current Hall of Fame members, one of which will be the Chairman of the
committee.

Individuals may be nominated from three categories.  The nominee, if an alumnus or
coach, must be five years removed from Atholton High School.

 

ATHLETE:  The nominee must have graduated from AHS and be
a graduate of five years or more. A person who
distinguished himself/herself in the field of athletics while a
student at AHS.  Examples include state champion, state participant/qualifier, multiple letter
winner, all-state performer, all-conference performer, school record holder, etc.

 

COACH:  The nominee must be inactive from the
coaching staff for 5 years.  Criteria for consideration should be
based on accomplishments that merit statewide recognition or significant contributions
(varsity level coach) to the Athletic Programs at AHS.

 

CONTRIBUTOR:  An individual who has made significant and outstanding
contributions to the interscholastic athletic programs at AHS. Consideration will be given to a
student-athlete who excels in a sport that is not offered at the varsity level through the Howard
Country Public School System Athletic Program.

Note:  Any extenuating circumstances may allow the committee to waive provisions for induction.

Any interested party may make nominations including current and former coaches and HOF members. Nominations are submitted to the Hall of Fame Committee for consideration.


Nominations must be received by June 1 using the HOF nomination form.
After appropriate discussion, the Committee members will vote for induction. A majority vote
for induction is needed in order for the nominee to enter the Hall of Fame. No more than
5 new members may be inducted in any given year.
Except in rare cases, there is a waiting period of 5 years before nominees may be inducted.


Effective June 1, 2021, a candidate will remain in nomination for a period of 3 years. After 3
years their name will be removed unless they are re-nominated.
Individuals who were nominated prior to June 1, 2021, will remain in nomination until May 31,
2024. They may be re-nominated at that time.
